String node

Value Monitor

Every value on screen in one table. Drop any cable on + and it becomes a row named after the port it came from — numbers, true/false, colours, lists, structures, text. Modern draws a clean table (labels right, values left, striped rows); Retro prints it on paper with grain, hand-ruled lines and dirt. Long values wrap; Max Height scrolls. The same rows are live in the Settings tab, with Copy.

Inputs

PortTypeDefault
EnableOff hides the table (the rows keep updating in the Settings tab).booltrue
StyleModern — a clean table: outline, labels right, values left, striped rows. Retro — printed on paper: grain, hand-ruled ink lines, dirt.int0
XWhere the table sits across, Grafit units (0 = the middle; the view’s shorter side is −1…1). H Align says which side of the table sits here.float0
YWhere the table sits up and down, Grafit units (0 = the middle). V Align says which edge of the table sits here.float0
SizeText height in Grafit units: 0.03 small, 0.045 default, 0.08 for a stage screen. The table is drawn at the screen’s pixel density — sharp at any size.float0.045
Max Width0 = as wide as the longest value. Otherwise the table’s width in Grafit units: longer values wrap inside their cell; labels take at most 45 %.float0
Max Height0 = every row shows. Otherwise the table’s height in Grafit units; the rest scrolls (Scroll, Follow Newest) with a scrollbar.float0
Scroll0–1: top to bottom of a table taller than Max Height. Cable an LFO or a slider into it.float0
Follow NewestOn: always shows the bottom of the list (the newest rows), like a log.boolfalse
Show LabelsOff: values only, one per row.booltrue
Label NamesPort name — as the + port was named (rename it to rename the row). Node › Port — with the node it comes from (two LFO Values stay apart). Node name — the node only.int0
Type ColorsLabels in the colour of their data type, like the cables: float green, int turquoise, bool red, string violet, structure yellow, colour pink.booltrue
Bold LabelsLabels in bold.booltrue
Italic ValuesValues in italic (Retro slants the typewriter face).boolfalse
Label AlignLabel cell alignment. Right (default) sits each label against its value — the spreadsheet look.int0
Value AlignValue cell alignment. Left (default) starts every value at the same line.int0
Corners0 = square corners, 1 = fully rounded.float0.5
StripesHalf-tone shade on every other row, 0–1. Helps the eye follow a long row.float0.5
DecimalsDigits after the point for numbers, 0–8. Digits keep a fixed width, so a changing number does not jitter.int3
ExpandOff: a list or structure is one short row ([n] a, b, … / {key: value, …}). On: one row per element or key (up to 64).boolfalse
Holdms a one-frame true (a trigger, a click, a beat) stays lit so you can see it; each pulse is counted (×N). 0 shows only the frame itself.float300
RefreshHow often the picture is redrawn at most, 1–60 per second (only when something changed). 15 is easy on the CPU; the Settings tab is always live.float15
GrainRetro: paper grain, 0–1.float0.5
DirtRetro: stains, specks and, above 0.5, a cup ring, 0–1.float0.4
SeedRetro: another sheet of paper — a different pattern of dirt, grain and wobble.int1
InteractiveOn: when the table is taller than Max Height, scroll it with the mouse wheel or trackpad over the table, drag the scrollbar, or click the track to jump. Scrolling up pauses Follow Newest until you are back at the bottom.booltrue
H AlignWhich side of the table sits at X: Left (the table grows to the right), Centre, or Right (it grows to the left — for a list along the right edge).int0
V AlignWhich edge sits at Y: Top (the list grows downward), Centre, or Bottom (it grows upward — for a list along the bottom edge).int0
