String node
String Combine
Combine multiple strings into a single output string. Inputs appear dynamically as you connect values, and numeric types are automatically converted to text. Supports rich text with newlines and tabs.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Clean PortsRemoves every added input that has no cable attached and renumbers the rest. Leave it off while patching, pulse it on to tidy up. | bool | false |
Outputs

How It Works
String Combine concatenates all connected input values into a single output string. Values are joined in the order of their port indices: [0] first, then [1], [2], and so on. New input ports appear automatically as you connect values to the node.
The node performs automatic type conversion for common numeric types. If you connect a Float or Int output to one of the inputs, it is converted to its string representation before concatenation. This makes it easy to embed numeric values within text.
Rich text content is preserved, including newline characters and tabs within the input strings. This allows you to build multi-line text output by combining strings that contain line breaks.
The Clean Ports input helps manage the node layout. When enabled, any input port that has been disconnected and is no longer in use is removed, keeping the node compact.
Examples
| [0] | [1] | [2] | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Hello" | " " | "World" | "Hello World" |
| "Value: " | "42" | — | "Value: 42" |
| "Line 1\n" | "Line 2" | — | "Line 1\nLine 2" |
| "X=" | "1.5" | " Y=2.0" | "X=1.5 Y=2.0" |
Use Cases
- Build display text by combining labels with dynamic values for the Text node.
- Construct messages for OSC, Serial, or TCP output by assembling protocol strings.
- Create formatted output with embedded numeric data from sensor or computation nodes.
- Assemble file paths by combining directory names, separators, and filenames.
- Generate multi-line text by including newline characters between string segments.
Tips
- Connect a Constant node with a space or delimiter string between values to add separators.
- Numeric values from Float or Int ports are auto-converted, so you can connect them directly without a conversion node.
- Enable Clean Ports when you are done configuring the node to remove unused input slots.
- For the reverse operation (splitting a combined string back into parts), use String Splitter.
- The dynamic port system means there is no limit to how many strings you can combine.
