Network node
TCP Client
Connect to a remote TCP server and send data.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| HostAddress of the server to connect to, as an IP or a hostname. An empty field falls back to 127.0.0.1, and a half-typed address ending in a dot is ignored until it is complete. | string | 127.0.0.1 |
| PortThe port on that server. A whole number in 0…65535 — nothing outside that range is a valid port. | int | 8080 |
| DataWhat gets sent. Anything can be cabled in: text, numbers and switches become plain text, while a structure or JSON is serialised to a JSON string first. | any | |
| SendWhile on, sends the current Data. The same value only goes out once — it is sent again when Data actually changes. | bool | false |
| Auto ReconnectKeeps trying to re-establish the link after the server drops or the cable is pulled. Off leaves the connection down until a setting changes. | bool | true |
| EnableOff closes the connection completely and reports nothing connected. On reconnects using the current Host and Port. | bool | true |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Sent | bool |
| Connected | bool |
| TLS Active | bool |
| Authenticated | bool |
| Response | string |
| TLS Error | string |
How It Works
Connects to a TCP server at the specified host and port. To transmit data, connect a value to the Data input and toggle Send to true. The Sent output confirms successful transmission. Auto Reconnect automatically re-establishes the connection if it drops, which is useful for unreliable networks or servers that restart. The Response output contains any reply data sent back by the server.
Use Cases
- Sending processed data to an external application or service
- Communicating with a remote server for real-time control
- Forwarding graph output to another instance of Grafit over the network
- Integrating with custom TCP-based hardware controllers
Tips
- Use "127.0.0.1" as the Host when connecting to a server running on the same machine
- Enable Auto Reconnect for long-running installations where network stability may vary
- The Send input acts as a trigger — toggle it to transmit the current Data value
- Pair with a TCP Server node on another machine for bidirectional communication
