Color node
Gradient
A reusable multi-stop color gradient. Edit color stops directly on the gradient bar — drag them along it, tap to add, select to adjust color / position. Outputs a gradient any node can sample (notably Plexus Color Mode), keeping consumers lean. Can also be driven procedurally from a connected Stops structure.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| StopsLeave it open and edit the color stops in the inspector. Connect a stop structure — each stop holding pos, r, g, b, a — and it drives the gradient instead; unreadable data falls back to the default cyan to magenta. | structure | — |
| MixThe blend space between stops. Classic RGB is the plain lerp (saturated pairs sag through gray). Linear = gamma-correct light. Oklab = smooth perceptual. OkLCH keeps CHROMA while hue rotates (short arc; Long takes the long way — a rainbow). Vivid adds a mid-transition chroma boost — never duller than the ends. | int | 0 |

What It Does
The Gradient node defines a multi-stop color ramp once and lets any node sample it. Most notably, Plexus uses it for Color Mode coloring — but it's a general-purpose color source. Keeping the gradient in one node keeps consumers simple and lets you restyle everything from a single place.
The Stop Editor
The editor is pro-style: color stops sit directly on the gradient bar. Drag a stop along the bar to move it, tap the bar to add a new stop at that position, and select a stop to edit its color, fine-tune its position, or delete it. An alpha checkerboard shows transparency.
Procedural Input
The Stops input lets you drive the gradient from data: connect a structure of stops (each with position + RGBA) and the gradient updates procedurally (the manual editor steps aside). The Gradient output is a readable named structure other nodes — or a JSON/Structure inspector — can read back.
Animation Ideas
- Color cycling — drive the stop positions or colors procedurally from Time for a flowing, shifting palette across a Plexus web.
- Audio palette — map an audio band to a stop's position so the gradient's hot zone tracks the music.
- Depth tint — pair with Plexus Z-Depth Color Mode so nearer parts of a 3D cloud read warm and far parts cool.
