Color node
Color to RGB
Decompose any color into its individual Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha channel components (all normalized 0 -- 1). This is the inverse of the RGB Color node and is essential for per-channel manipulation, math operations on individual color components, or driving other parameters from color data.
Inputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| ColorThe color to take apart into separate Red, Green, Blue and Alpha values. Cable any color source here; the components come out in the same 0…1 range the color carries. | color |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Red | float |
| Green | float |
| Blue | float |
| Alpha | float |
How It Works
Color to RGB receives a color value and extracts each of its four components as separate float outputs. The decomposed channels can be independently processed, modified, and then recombined using an RGB Color node — or used as standalone float values to drive other parameters in your graph.
Use Cases
- Per-channel processing — Extract channels, apply Math operations (invert, scale, offset, clamp), then recombine with RGB Color for custom color adjustments.
- Channel swapping — Decompose a color, then wire Red to Blue and Blue to Red in an RGB Color node to swap channels.
- Color-driven parameters — Use the brightness of an incoming color (e.g. average of R, G, B) to control particle size, shape scale, or audio volume.
- Conditional logic — Feed individual channels into Compare nodes to trigger actions when a color reaches a certain threshold (e.g. "if Red > 0.8, enable this layer").
- Data visualization — Map sensor data to color, then decompose it to extract individual measurements back as float values.
Tips
- Pair with RGB Color for a decompose-modify-recompose workflow.
- To convert to HSL instead, use the Color to HSL node.
- The Alpha output is useful for detecting transparent regions of an image or color signal.
- If the input color comes from a generator or image, the values reflect the pixel color at the sampled point.
