Flow Field

The vector field a connected Flow Map is using this frame, as an image: Color Wheel (hue = direction, opacity = strength) for visuals, or Raw RG (direction packed around 0.5) to composite, record, or drive another Flow Map's Mask input.

Inputs

PortTypeDefault
ImageCable a Flow Map's Image output here — this node shows the motion field that map is using right now.image—
EnableOff clears the output to transparent.booltrue
StyleColor Wheel paints direction as hue and strength as opacity, for eyes; Raw RG packs the vectors around mid-grey so another Flow Map can read it back. Out-of-range values snap to the nearest.int0
GainBrightens weak parts of the field so they become visible. At least 0; 1 is faithful, 2…5 exposes the quiet areas.float1

How It Works

Flow Field exports the vector field a connected Flow Map is using this frame as an ordinary image. Two styles: Color Wheel (hue is direction, opacity is strength) for visuals and debugging, or Raw RG (direction packed into red and green, 0.5-centred) for compositing, recording, or driving a second Flow Map.

Gain scales what is drawn without touching the field itself.

Use Cases

  • See the field — put the hue wheel on a Canvas layer while tuning a Flow Map's style.
  • Chain fields — feed the Raw RG image into another Flow Map's Mask input.
  • Export motion — record the field as video and reuse it later as a mask.

Tips

  • Raw RG is the one to composite or store; Color Wheel is for eyes, not for maths.
  • The field is exactly what the Flow Map samples — if the motion looks wrong, this node shows you why.
