Virtual Camera Output

Publishes any connected image as a real macOS camera — "Grafit Camera" — selectable in any video-conferencing, streaming or camera app, with no plugins on the receiving side. Configurable resolution/FPS with a protected format contract; Flip H/V ports; frames cost nothing while nobody watches.

Inputs

PortTypeDefault
ImageThe picture published to the virtual webcam. Cable a Canvas, a Render Output or any image chain here; it only renders while another app is actually watching the camera.image—
EnableStarts and stops pushing frames to the system camera. Installing the camera extension is a separate action, and the published size and frame rate can only change while this is off.boolfalse
Background ColorCamera frames are opaque, so anything transparent in the image is composited over this colour. RGBA 0…1; its alpha does not make the camera see-through.color—
Flip HorizontalMirrors the published frames left to right — the usual fix when you want the selfie-mirror look in a call.boolfalse
Flip VerticalFlips the published frames top to bottom. Pixel content only; the camera format never changes.boolfalse

How It Works

Built on Apple's Camera Extension API — fully sandbox- and App-Store-compliant, installed once via an explicit action. The published resolution (horizontal/vertical/square presets, exact pixels, or "Same as Output") and frame rate are chosen in Settings and form a protected contract: they can only change while the node is disabled, and the extension refuses any change while another app is actually watching — a live stream can never break. Frames convert and push only while a consumer app watches; the Streaming output reports that live.

Use Cases

  • Live visuals in a call — Render Output → Virtual Camera: your whole patch becomes your webcam in any conferencing app.
  • Streaming source without plugins — broadcast software picks up "Grafit Camera" like any physical camera.
  • Vertical streams — publish 1080×1920 for phone-first platforms.
