Geometry Weld
Merges vertices closer than Distance into one and drops the triangles that collapse — the cleanup pass after Combine, Array or Slice. Seams disappear, vertex counts drop, and with Smooth on the normals are recomputed so shading flows across what used to be a hard edge. Turn Smooth off to weld positions but keep the original faceted look.

How It Works
Geometry Weld merges vertices closer together than Distance into one and drops the triangles that collapse. It is the cleanup pass after Combine, Array or Slice.
Seams disappear, vertex counts fall, and with Smooth on the normals are recomputed so shading flows across what used to be a hard edge. Turn Smooth off to weld the positions but keep the original faceted look.
Use Cases
- After Combine — Remove the coincident vertices where two merged parts touch.
- After Array — Join copies that meet, so a ring reads as one continuous object.
- Lighten a mesh — Welding at a small distance often removes a surprising number of duplicates.
- Smooth a seam — Smooth on, and the shading crosses the join.
- Clean an import — Many files carry split vertices that serve no purpose.
Tips
- Start with a tiny Distance and raise it until the seams close. Too large and you will lose real detail.
- Smooth off is a legitimate style choice — welded positions with faceted shading.
- Weld is not a decimator; for real reduction use Geometry Decimate.
- Watch the vertex count to see whether the weld actually did anything.
