Camera Switch

Switches between Camera cables by Index, the way Switch and Image Switch do — drop a Camera cable and a fresh slot appears. Ease Time 0 is a hard cut; above 0 the output camera rides a rail from the outgoing view to the incoming one — the look-at glides, the eye arcs around it, the lens breathes — along the Ease Type curve. Both cameras stay live during the glide, and switching mid-glide departs from the current view instead of jumping.

How It Works

Camera Switch does for cameras what Switch does for values and Image Switch does for pictures. Drop a Camera cable and a fresh slot appears; Index picks the live one.

Ease Time 0 is a hard cut. Above 0 the output camera rides a rail from the outgoing view to the incoming one — the look-at glides, the eye arcs around it, the lens breathes — along the Ease Type curve. Both cameras stay live during the glide, and switching mid-glide departs from the current view instead of jumping.

Progress, Finished, Index and Count report the ride.

Use Cases

  • A multi-camera show — Several composed viewpoints on a keyboard or a MIDI pad.
  • Automated camera moves — A Timeline's markers step the Index through a sequence.
  • Cut and glide in one patch — Ease Time from a control so the same switch can cut or travel.
  • Orbiting between subjects — Two cameras aimed at two objects; the ease arcs between them.
  • Safety camera — A wide default view that a single Index change returns to.

Tips

  • The glide arcs the eye around the look-at rather than travelling in a straight line, which is what makes it read as a camera move rather than a lerp.
  • Mid-glide switches depart from the current view — rapid changes flow instead of snapping. That is deliberate.
  • Use an ease curve with a soft start and end; linear camera moves look mechanical.
  • Each slot can be an Interactive camera, but only one camera anywhere holds the mouse at a time.
