Structure node
Break Named Structure
Break a named structure (dictionary) into individual output ports. Each key in the input dictionary becomes a separate named output, giving you direct access to every field in the structure.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| StructureA named structure or JSON object to unpack — one output port appears per key. Feed it anything non-named and the output ports disappear. | structure | — |
| Clean PortsRemoves leftover ports whose keys no longer exist. Those ports are normally kept so cables survive a brief data gap; switch this on once to sweep them away. | bool | false |

How It Works
Break Named Structure takes a dictionary-style structure and creates a separate output port for each key it contains. The port names match the dictionary keys, and the ports are sorted alphabetically for consistent ordering.
When the input structure changes — such as when keys are added or removed — the output ports update automatically to reflect the current set of keys. Each output port carries the value associated with its corresponding key.
The Clean Ports input is useful for graph maintenance. When enabled, any output port that has no downstream connection is removed from the node. This keeps the node compact when you only need a few fields from a large dictionary.
Use Cases
- Decompose JSON data that has been parsed into a named structure, exposing each field as a routable value.
- Extract configuration fields from a settings dictionary to feed individual processing nodes.
- Inspect dictionary contents by breaking them into individually observable outputs.
- Route named channels such as labeled EEG electrodes or sensor streams to separate processing chains.
Tips
- This is the natural complement to Make Named Structure. Build dictionaries with named inputs, then decompose them wherever needed.
- Output ports are sorted alphabetically by key name, regardless of the order they were inserted into the dictionary.
- For indexed (array) structures, use Break Structure instead.
- If you only need one specific value from the dictionary, Get By Name is more efficient than breaking the entire structure.
