Audio node
Audio Output
Plays audio back through a system output device with selectable buffer size (latency vs stability) and volume. Monitor the captured input or play processed audio.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Audio DataThe sound to play. Cable it from Audio Player, Audio Input, Audio Modular System or any audio effect; with nothing connected playback stops. | structure | — |
| EnableOff stops the playback session and releases the device; on starts it again from scratch. | bool | true |
| DeviceWhich output device plays the sound. 0 is the system default; higher numbers pick from the device list, and an index past the end falls back to the default. | int | 0 |
| VolumePlayback level. Clamped to 0…1, so it can only attenuate — raise gain earlier in the chain if you need more. | float | 1.0 |
| BufferDevice buffer size, trading latency against stability: 0 is 16 frames (0.3 ms, dropout-prone) up to 11 for 64K (1.4 s). Out-of-range values snap to the nearest end. | int | 5 |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Is Playing | bool |
| Level | float |
| Latency | float |
| Device Name | string |
| Sample Rate | float |
What It Does
Audio Output is the speaker end of the audio pipeline: it takes Audio Data and plays it through a system output device. Use it to monitor what Audio Input is hearing, or to route sound through your graph and back out.
How It Works
Connect an Audio Data source (typically Audio Input). Pick an output Device and a Buffer size — small buffers mean lower latency but need more CPU; larger buffers are safer against glitches. Volume scales the level. It reports Is Playing, the current Level, and the actual Latency.
Parameters
| Parameter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Device | Which output (speakers, interface, headphones). |
| Volume | Playback level (0–1). |
| Buffer | Latency vs. stability trade-off — smaller = lower latency. |
Examples
- Live monitor — Audio Input → Audio Output to hear your mic with the visuals.
- Pass-through — route captured audio out to a recorder or another app via a virtual device.
Tips
- If you hear glitches/crackle, increase the Buffer size.
- Beware feedback: monitoring a microphone through nearby speakers can howl — use headphones.
