Aeolian Synth
Strings played by the air — an aeolian harp. Up to five strings, ten harmonics each, every harmonic a narrow band of breath tuned to the Mode; Centre (a harmonic number, 2–11) and Width choose which harmonics ring — cable wind into Centre and the wind picks the harmonic. The strings take turns (Talk): one blooms, a consonant one answers. They retune only in silence and now and then wander to a neighbouring degree. Gust and Activity shape level and talk; Notes, when cabled, become the strings. Add inside an Audio Modular System.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Enable | bool | true |
| NotesOptional. The lowest five held notes become the strings (retuned in silence). Without notes the strings sit on the Mode's degrees. | float | — |
| ModeThe scale every harmonic snaps to: Dorian, Aeolian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Phrygian, Ionian, Pentatonic minor. A change retunes in silence (3.5 s). | int | 1 |
| RootSemitones above D (−24…24) the mode is rooted on. | int | 0 |
| StringsHow many strings, 1–5: tonic, fifth, third, seventh, second. | int | 5 |
| OctaveOctaves above the degree the strings sound (−2…3; 1 = Terremoti). | int | 1 |
| LevelLoudness, 0–8 (1 = Terremoti at full wind). | float | 1 |
| CentreWhich harmonic rings loudest, 1–14 (harmonic numbers). Cable wind: Terremoti uses 2.6 + 8.6 × wind (0–1). | float | 4 |
| WidthHow many harmonics around Centre ring, 0.2–12. Terremoti: 1.9 + 1.8 × wind. | float | 2.4 |
| Gust0–1: level × (0.22 + 0.78 × gust). | float | 0.5 |
| Activity0–1: how much the strings talk — phrases come sooner. 0 = silent turns. | float | 0.5 |
| TalkOn: the strings take turns (call, answer, sometimes a third). Off: all sound together. | bool | true |
| WanderOn: now and then a string moves to a neighbouring degree, in silence. | bool | true |
| AirThe top of the sound: a low-pass at this frequency, 300–16000 Hz. | float | 3800 |
