Signal Export
Writes the Signal’s window to a file: CSV (one row per frame, the axis in seconds / Hz / the value axis, one column per channel with its unit) or JSON (rate, unit, labels, kind, channels). Choose the folder in Settings (the sandbox-safe default is the app’s Documents); a rising edge on Export writes a file — a button, a key, a Timeline marker — and Export Now in Settings does it by hand. Auto Name adds a timestamp so nothing is overwritten.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| SignalThe Signal whose window is written. | structure | — |
| FormatCSV: a comment line, a header with the axis and each channel (unit), one row per frame. JSON: rate, unit, labels, kind, origin, the channels as arrays. | int | 0 |
| Base NameFile name without extension. | string | signal |
| Auto NameAdds a yyyyMMdd-HHmmss stamp so every export is a new file. | bool | true |
| Include TimeA first column / array with the sample axis: seconds ago, Hz for spectra, the value axis for distributions. | bool | true |
| ExportRising edge writes the file into the folder chosen in Settings (default: the app’s Documents). | bool | false |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Last File | string |
| Frames | int |
| Exported | bool |
How It Works
Signal Export writes a Signal's window to a file. CSV gives one row per frame, with the axis in seconds, Hz or the value axis as appropriate, and one column per channel with its unit in the header. JSON carries the rate, the unit, the labels, the kind and the channels.
The folder is chosen once in the Settings tab (the sandbox-safe default is the app's own Documents folder). A rising edge on Export writes a file — from a button, a key, or a Timeline marker — and Export Now in Settings does it by hand. Auto Name adds a timestamp so nothing is overwritten.
Last File is the path, Frames the row count, and Exported pulses when the write completes.
Use Cases
- Take the data out — Open the CSV in a spreadsheet, R or Python for analysis Grafit does not do.
- Record an experiment — A Timeline marker exports a window at each stage of a protocol.
- Archive a session — The measurements alongside the Video Recorder capture of the picture.
- Share a measurement — The units travel in the header, so nobody has to ask what the numbers are.
- Snapshot on an event — Events' pulse into Export captures exactly the window around something interesting.
Tips
- Export is edge-triggered: hold it true and you get one file, not a stream of them.
- Include Time makes the CSV self-describing; turn it off only when the consumer supplies its own axis.
- Resample first when several Signals must share one grid in one analysis.
- Auto Name on is the safe default — off means you are responsible for not overwriting your own data.
- JSON preserves more metadata than CSV; pick it when a program rather than a person will read the file.
