Serial node
Serial Out
Send data to serial port (USB/UART).
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| PortThe serial device to write to, given as its system path or name. Take it from the device list rather than typing it by hand. | string | — |
| Baud RateLine speed in bits per second. It must match what the device expects — 9600 and 115200 are the usual choices; a mismatch arrives as garbage. | int | 115200 |
| DataThe text sent out of the port. Anything a text cable can carry, sent as written. | string | — |
| SendGates transmission. True lets Data go out; leave it false to keep the line quiet. | bool | — |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Sent | bool |
| Connected | bool |
How It Works
Sends data to a serial port for communication with microcontrollers and other serial hardware. Configure the port path and baud rate to match your target device. Connect a string value to the Data input and toggle Send to true to transmit. The Sent output confirms successful transmission. This node is useful for controlling Arduino, ESP32, or other microcontrollers directly from your graph.
Use Cases
- Sending commands to an Arduino or ESP32 to control motors, LEDs, or relays
- Writing configuration data to serial-connected instruments
- Building a bidirectional serial link when paired with a Serial In node
- Transmitting computed values to custom hardware in real time
Tips
- Set the Port path to match your device (e.g., /dev/tty.usbmodem14101 on macOS)
- Ensure the Baud Rate matches your device's expected communication speed
- The Send input acts as a trigger — toggle it to transmit the current Data value
- Pair with a Serial In node for two-way communication with your hardware
- Use a String Format or String Join node to construct command strings before sending
