Point Smooth

Eases any point cloud: each point follows its incoming position with a Smooth time constant (seconds), so jumps become glides. Identity by index -- a new point starts at its target, a jump longer than Max Slide snaps (0 = always ease). Universal: after Notes to Points, trackers, layouts, before Plexus.

SmoothTime constant of the ease in seconds: 0 passes through, 0.15 settles a jittery tracker, 1 turns jumps into slow glides. Every index follows its own target.float0.15
Max SlideA jump longer than this snaps instead of gliding across the screen (identity swaps in the source). 0 = always ease.float0

How It Works

Point Smooth eases any point cloud: each point follows its incoming position with an exponential time constant, so jumps become glides. Identity is by INDEX — point 3 always eases toward point 3 of the input — which is why it pairs naturally with producers that keep stable slots.

Smooth is the time constant in seconds (the time to cover most of the distance), and it is frame-rate independent. Max Slide is a guard: when a point's target moves further than that in one step, the point snaps instead of gliding, so a genuine teleport (a new note taking a slot, a tracker re-seeding) does not draw a long streak across the frame.

Use Cases

  • Calm a tracker — soften Vision landmarks or Track Points output without losing the shape.
  • Musical motion — ease Notes to Points positions so notes swell into place instead of snapping.
  • Before Plexus — a smoothed cloud gives a web that breathes rather than flickers.

Tips

  • Give the producer stable indices (Notes to Points' Stable Slots, Landmarks to Points' slot identity) or the easing will glide between unrelated points.
  • Keep Max Slide slightly above the largest legitimate frame-to-frame motion in your scene.
  • Chain it after Point Transform, not before, if you want the smoothing to happen in final coordinates.
