Points node
Get Point
Takes one point from a point cloud by index (0 = first, -1 = last). Point is a single x,y,z -- open it with Break Point, or feed it anywhere a cloud goes. Valid is false when the index is outside the cloud; Count is the cloud size.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| PointsThe cloud to pick from — anything PointCloud understands: Points outputs, landmarks, point arrays, structures with x and y. | structure | — |
| IndexWhich point to take: 0 is the first, negative counts from the end (-1 = last). Outside the cloud, Valid turns false and Point is 0,0,0. Not clamped. | int | 0 |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Point | structure |
| Valid | bool |
| Count | int |
How It Works
Get Point takes one point out of any point cloud by index and hands it on as a single live point. The cloud can be anything PointCloud understands — a Points output, Vision landmarks, a point array, or any structure with x and y.
Index is zero-based; negative values count from the end (−1 is the last point), exactly like Get by Index. When the index falls outside the cloud, Valid turns false and Point reads 0, 0, 0. Count always reports the cloud size.
Use Cases
- Follow one landmark — pull a single fingertip or joint out of a tracked cloud and drive a shape with it.
- Head and tail — index 0 and −1 give the ends of a trail, an L-System branch, or a Lines Visualize path.
- Scrub a cloud — cable an animated int (Counter, Iteration, a Math floor of Time) into Index to walk through the points one at a time.
- Open it further — Break Point on the result gives X, Y, Z as numbers.
Tips
- Point is a one-point cloud, so it also feeds Points Visualize, Points Merge or a particle shape directly.
- Use Valid to gate downstream work instead of testing for a 0, 0, 0 position — a real point can legitimately sit at the origin.
- Cloud order is the producer's order: Notes to Points with Stable Slots keeps indices meaningful over time, an unstable cloud does not.
