Audio Recorder

Records the cabled audio to a file while Record is on — sample-exact from the source itself (a Scope Voice, a microphone, a player), at its rate and channel count, as WAV, AIFF or CAF. Choose the folder in Settings (the sandbox-safe default is the app’s Documents); Auto Name adds a timestamp so nothing is overwritten. Last File is the path, ready for an Audio Player’s File port.

How It Works

Audio Recorder writes the cabled audio to a file while Record is true. It is not a tap on the speakers: the recording is taken sample-exact from the source itself — a Scope Voice, a microphone, a player, a synth — at that source's own rate and channel count, so nothing the master mix does can colour it.

Formats are WAV, AIFF and CAF. The folder is chosen once in the Settings tab (the sandbox-safe default is the app's own Documents folder) and remembered as a security-scoped bookmark. Auto Name stamps a timestamp so nothing is ever overwritten.

While it runs, Recording and Seconds report the state. When it stops, Last File is the path on disk — ready to be cabled straight into an Audio Player's File port, which closes the loop from generation to playback without leaving the graph.

Use Cases

  • Capture an oscilloscope piece — Scope Voice into Audio Recorder, then the file back into an Audio Player and onto the scope again. The Record and Replay example is exactly this loop.
  • Sample your own synth — Record a phrase from the Modular System, then trigger the file from a key with the Audio Player's Trigger mode.
  • Document a session — Record the microphone alongside a Video Recorder capture of the picture.
  • Analysis material — Write a window of a live signal to disk so it can be examined offline.
  • Build a sample library — Auto Name plus a trigger on a key turns the graph into a sampler bench.

Tips

  • Record from the node you actually want, not from Audio Output — recording the source keeps the take clean of master-bus processing.
  • Last File updates when the file is closed, so gate any downstream player on Recording going false.
  • WAV is the safest interchange format; CAF is the one to pick for very long takes.
  • Reveal in Finder in the Settings tab opens the folder the files are landing in.
  • Pair with Video Recorder when you need picture and sound as separate, sample-exact files.
