Array node
Array Stringify
Convert an array to readable text for debugging. Choose from multiple display formats including comma-separated, one-per-line, indexed, JSON, and inline summary. Control decimal precision and maximum line count.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| ArrayThe list to turn into readable text. Any array stream works — numbers, strings, booleans, colours and points all get printed; an empty list prints as empty. | any | — |
| FormatHow the text is laid out: List puts one indexed element per line, Compact separates them with commas, JSON wraps them in brackets. Values outside the list fall back to List. | int | 0 |
| PrecisionDecimal places shown for numeric elements. Clamped to 0…10; 0 prints whole numbers, integers and text ignore it. | int | 2 |
| Max LinesCaps how many elements are printed, with a count of the rest appended. 0 or less prints the whole list; useful for keeping long streams readable on screen. | int | 0 |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Text | string |
| Count | int |
How It Works
Array Stringify converts an array to a human-readable string using the selected Format:
- 0 — Comma:
1.23, 4.56, 7.89 - 1 — Lines: One element per line.
- 2 — Indexed:
[0] 1.23,[1] 4.56, etc. - 3 — JSON: Valid JSON array format.
- 4 — Inline: Compact summary with count:
[3] 1.23, 4.56, 7.89
Precision controls decimal places for float values. Max Lines limits output length (0 = no limit) — useful for large arrays where you only need to see the first N elements.
Use Cases
- Debug display: Connect to a UI Text node to show array contents live on the output viewport.
- Data export: Use JSON format to generate valid JSON arrays for TCP/OSC transmission.
- Logging: Use indexed format to identify specific element positions when troubleshooting.
Tips
- Set Max Lines to a small number (e.g., 10) for large arrays to keep the display manageable.
- JSON format is useful when the array needs to be sent over TCP or parsed by external software.
- Precision 0 shows integers, Precision 2 shows two decimal places — adjust based on your data.
