MIDI node
MIDI Receiver
Receive MIDI messages (Notes, CC, Pitch Bend, Aftertouch) from a MIDI device.
Inputs
| Port | Type | Default |
|---|---|---|
| EnableStarts and stops listening to the device. Off releases the device and sends silence downstream — all notes, controllers and bend go to zero. | bool | true |
| Clean PortsWhile on, removes learned output ports that no longer carry a cable. Pulse it once for a tidy-up rather than leaving it on. | bool | false |
Outputs
| Port | Type |
|---|---|
| Notes | float |
| CC | float |
| Pitch Bend | float |
| Aftertouch | float |
| Connected | bool |
| Active Notes | int |
How It Works
Connects to a MIDI device selected in Settings. Dynamic output ports are created through MIDI Learn — move a control (knob, fader, key) on your MIDI device, and a corresponding output port appears automatically on the node. Supports Note On/Off, Control Change (CC), Pitch Bend, and Aftertouch message types. All values are output as normalized floats in the 0.0 to 1.0 range regardless of the original MIDI resolution. Clean Ports removes any learned ports that are no longer needed.
Use Cases
- Mapping MIDI controller knobs and faders to visual parameters
- Using a MIDI keyboard to trigger visual events based on note input
- Creating a tactile control surface for live visual performance
- Integrating hardware MIDI controllers with real-time data processing graphs
Tips
- Select your MIDI device in app Settings before enabling the node
- To learn a new control, simply move it on your MIDI hardware — the port appears automatically
- All output values are normalized to 0.0-1.0, so use Math nodes to remap to your desired range
- Use Clean Ports to remove learned mappings you no longer need
- Active Notes is useful for triggering effects only when keys are pressed
