Get Variable

Get Variable reads the current value of a named variable from the project's variable store. The variable name is set when the node is created (typically by dragging from the Variables tab).

The output updates automatically whenever the corresponding Set Variable node writes a new value. Multiple Get Variable nodes can read the same variable simultaneously — this is how data flows between distant parts of the graph without cables.

• Global parameters: Set a "master brightness" variable once and read it from multiple generators across the graph.
• Cross-macro communication: Pass data between Macro groups without routing cables through group ports.
• Clean graphs: Reduce cable clutter by using variables for widely-shared values like colors, sizes, or mode switches.
• Configuration: Store calibration values, thresholds, or device settings that many nodes reference.

• Variables persist with the project file — their values are saved and restored.
• If no Set Variable has written to the variable yet, the output will be empty (no value).
• Variable names must be unique within the project. Create them from the Variables sidebar tab.
• Get Variable nodes update in the same frame that Set Variable writes — there is no one-frame delay.

A variable can hold a float, int, string, bool, color, JSON — or an Image. An image variable holds a live reference to a texture source (a still, a video frame, or a camera), so a Get Variable typed Image outputs that source straight into a Canvas or any image consumer.

The node header shows the action plus the variable name — get face — so what each node reads is obvious at a glance, and it updates when the variable is renamed.
